I am hopeful it means that they will be some of the first to be able to get vaccinated once we have EUA for the first COVID vaccine. Then we can get back to school.

Air traffic controllers are employees of the federal government. The president has no jurisdiction over public or private school teachers, who are employees of their school district or private school.

I live in Fairfax County, where short term subs earn $14.50 an hour.

If you sub for the same teacher for 11 days in a row, that becomes a long term assignment, and then you will be paid $20.50/hour.

Yes, indeed, you can earn more money as a nanny, which is why during a pandemic, it is very hard to get older, retired teachers to pick up jobs as in person subs.

I thought that generally nannies made more than substitute teachers, who are notoriously underpaid. Is that not typical?

1/4 of the teachers where my friend in Georgia works have taken retirement or resigned. They are having trouble filling the spots, and that's even with lowering expectations and standards for applicants.
