My husband is very good looking but not melt your eyes handsome. But his personality, intelligence and how he engages people in conversations really has an effect on women. He’s also very successful which just adds to the effect. I gave up worrying about it years ago because his moral compass is very strong and we have a very loving relationship. But I do keep myself in good shape!

My husband is 5 6. I think he is very handsome. I am glad he isn't taller, I wanted to feel like an equal. We both have strong personalities. I am skinny and pretty and we have a bunch of kids. I am 5 4. He does earn a lot and I'm a sahm but we married when he was just starting out.

I can think of a few men like this! Nice guys, but their brains do not justify where they are. If you are a tall, classically handsome man, people listen to you and respect your authority! He's like an actor hired to play the role of this businessman/lawyer -- "I'm not really a lawyer, I just play one on TV".

On the other hand, sadly, some attractive women have a harder time being taken seriously.

yes, there is a whole 30 Rock episode about this phenomenon, starring Jon Hamm. Tina Fey calls it "being in the bubble." So, so hilarious...

i have an extremely handsome boyfriend in my twenties, and women threw themselves at him. all the time. strangers, people we knew. other people felt compelled to talk about his handsomeness all the time. He also had a lot of "swagger" and was extroverted and had a huge smug grin on his face often -- I think he gave off an impression of being up for it/being able to handle lots of sexual attention. He did sleep with lots and lots of women before and after our relationship (and one during!)

my husband is also handsome, but i think because he is a quiet, introverted person who doesn't get quite the same attention. People definitely dont joke about it like they did with the last guy!

My Dad is 62 and really has movie star looks. My mom has dealt with this for 35 years and is an expert at eye rolling. It first struck me when I was a freshman in college and he showed up for a father/daughter weekend and my friends were all ga ga over him. He is such a nice, normal guy and his looks don’t seem to mean much to him.

BF isn't hot but the minute he speaks he gets a lot of "omg are you like from like England??" from desperate Anglophiles.

My DH was attractive but not overly so in his 30s. Would get a smile or something but no one threw themselves at him, far as I know. At that time people thought I was the catch.

Now in his mid to late 40s though he lost weight and his face changed a bit. His hair turned a bit grey and he cut it differently, with an occasional light beard, and has turned into kind of that 'rugged sea captain' kind of look that some women really go crazy for. Like off the cover of a romance novel with the salt and pepper beard, wise eyes, etc. He definitely gets hit on at school functions and in the grocery, sometimes by older women but occasionally by some young gal who is attracted to that kind of look which he just laughs off. I just look older and more plain, but we are still very much together.

I'm not particularly handsome and this is a slight tangent. But, a gay man came on to me fairly aggressively recently. It was annoying. I am a 48 year old married straight guy with two children. I really just didn't want to be bothered. I guess this was a glimpse of what it must be like for women?

I asked my husband out as had two other women I knew who both dated him for a couple of months. One bragged about his sexual prowess which intrigued me. For many reasons I was a better match but it was intimidating to be with a guy like that. But once we got together it was very easy. Many years later he is still a very handsome guy and his prowess is still excellent.

There's something about extremely handsome straight men that sends me running in the opposite direction.

I dated a male model. He cared so much about his clothes. Had his jeans dry cleaned. This was college. Everything he owned was beautiful and stylish. Owned so many pairs of shoes. I don't remember ever looking as put together. He was never critical re: how I looked, but I also don't remember ever getting a compliment from him either.
