Back in the 90s we got them from the back of some store in Georgetown. Then you just stuck to stores and bars/clubs that didn’t question them. We got them confiscated a lot when we go out to Ocean City. They would just laugh and toss it in the trash. Some places you didn’t need an ID, you could just pay extra at the register. They could tell bc you didn’t ask for change and just left with your purchase. I don’t know if it’s as easy today - probably some places

I expect my kids to obey the law. If they don't like the law, they are welcome to try to change it, but that doesn't mean that breaking laws that exist is acceptable. That includes both drinking and fake IDs.

My kids are too young for this, but when they are college aged if they get one, I wouldn’t care (altered DOB). I mean, do you people really expect/want your kids to wait until 21 to go to clubs and drink?

Gosh, how harsh! Thankfully I grew up in a country that you could do all this at 18 legally.

Same. Though I will say my guy friends in high school just used to go in and steal beer from 7-11 because nobody had a fake ID! Surely that’s worse.

The Chinese has perfected them. They even scan properly! Both my college kids have them.


Yes, this is what the kids are doing. They get two, they scan and typically they just change the birthdate so all the other info is correct.

Identity theft is stealing someone elses identity. Having a fake ID with a fake name and dob is not the same thing.


Sometimes the fake ID is someone else's real identity, like if you look just like an older sibling and use theirs.


Here is the thing. Fake ID’s have been around a long time. The courts and police have plenty of tool to deal with fake IDs, using someone else ID, etc.

Identity theft is stealing someone elses identity. Having a fake ID with a fake name and dob is not the same thing.

Not owning it. It’s the using of a fake ID to gain goods or services that make it a crime.

One of my best friends in college was heavy into the NYC club scene and we all added birthdates to our college ID's to make them get us in. I didn't drink at all, but loved to go dancing. None of us would even have a drink, actually, but would spend school breaks dancing till 3 am. I never really thought much about it and I was a wildly rule bound kid who never touched a drug or drank. We just loved clubs!

Easy for most anyone with a steady hand, an exacting knife and a dot matrix printer to manipulate.

Also knew of HS students who as a rite of passage in college (drinking age had recently been raised from 18) would take a older sibling’s or lookalike friend’s SS card and birth certificate to DMV. There was always a discussion about the “easiest” DMV where you would t worry about getting caught. Met one contemporary who had lost her driving privileges for years for doing exactly the above...took her sister’s info (maybe unknowingly) and this was the outcome or plea bargain.


Tracks (the night club) years! Yup, that's how I got in early 90s.

Shhh, don't tell my teens. LOL.

He's in college, and showed me while I was driving him somewhere. I snatched it and chucked it out the window.

I probably could have handled that better. Oh well.

The DMV made a mistake on my birth date like reverse the year or misread it. Made me 6 years older! Lol ….I did not notice for a year and 1/2
