Really? On another thread, I read that Harris will abolish the magnets. DCUM's gonna DCUM, right?

I think that we should both educate ourselves more about both candidates before we vote in November.

Agree. If she wants to abolish magnets- I don't know what I'll do . hopefully Steve Austin's group will invite the two winners if he's not one.

SHE DOES NOT WANT TO ABOLISH MAGNETS.

Then why is she against magnets?

Who says she is?

So you think MCPS should defer to the people who complain the loudest?

No. I think the board members should grow a pair and vote for what they think is best. We probably need better voters too while we're at it.

But setting up a special commission to absolve the board from responsibility and accountability is a terrible idea.

In my experience, "People should be better people!" is not really a feasible policy proposal.

"But setting up a special commission to absolve the board from responsibility and accountability is a terrible idea."

The commission actually makes the board MORE responsible. The board is responsible for whatever the commission does. If you don't like it you can vote against any or all of them because of the commission.

If the board does the boundaries themselves, they will make a bunch of deals with each other so that they all get partial credit and partial blame, meaning they all get reelected.

How is that possibly more accountable?

Really? That's absurd. It's the only sensible way to do this.

Is that your position on legislative redistricting commissions, too? You think it's better when partisan state legislatures do it?
