Stick with what you’ve picked and use GinGin for the nickname.

You can’t babe your kids Viv and Vivienne. That’s insane.

(I like both names Individually so it has nothing to do with that. This would be the equivalent of having a John and Johnathan. It’s ridiculous.)

Lots of French-ish names: Gabrielle, Simone, Charlotte, Juliette, Natalie, etc. But Viv and Vivienne is a terrible idea.

Audrey
Amelia

Even without the Viv nickname, Genevieve and Vivienne are too similar. You will trip yourself up constantly. I gave my kids similarly similar names and it was a mistake, their nicknames sound too similar and it makes them mad when I call one and the other responds.

I think its WAY less pretentious/strivery to give your children nice, longer, formal-sounding given names than it is to randomly select other people's surnames as given names (Hadley, Addison, etc).

But then again I am torn between Priscilla and Gloria as my baby's middle name so I like fancy names!!

I think these are trashy names. Please don't name your kids either.

I love these names. Love.

There is a reason why many gave French names for pretensions! How deep and far does the British culture indoctrinates!

Genevieve is one of my ALL time favorite names. I love it. I also love Vivienne and Sophie. And Genevieve and Vivienne are not that close. G sound, V sound.

I would definitely go with Vivienne to round out the names.

No, no, no. Did you miss the part where OP said that they call their Genevieve Viv for short? You think she should have kids named Viv and Vivienne? That’s ridiculous.

OP, since you gave your oldest the nickname of Viv, you can’t name another child Vivienne. Doesn’t matter that you love the name Vivienne. Choose something else.

Not pretentious. But I would be upset if I were a Genevieve stuck with the nickname Ginny because my sister is taking Vi, or Vivi. Use it for the middle name and pick something else for first.

Your acquaintance is a jerk for giving their opinion unless you asked for it. I think the names are fine, but if you call your Genevieve “Viv” often, you might want to give the new baby a different name than Vivienne so both kids feel unique.
