What do you mean “form a plan to get people cloth face masks”?
Go online and order a face mask if you want one. Who exactly is supposed to knock on your front door with one. They are available hundreds of places online. Order them.

+1 seriously!!

+2 who is “they?” Do you expect the Govt to drop one off?

Uh....yeah. The non-shthole countries out there, like Austria, hand out free masks to their citizens. Spain is handing them out at public transportation sites. I think even Turkey was handing them out. Meanwhile, in the great old US of A, our health care workers wear garbage bags and the government suggests you tie a t-shirt around your face.

And what about people who can't afford to buy or make their own masks? What are the homeless supposed to do? This is a community problem (as all health care issues are) - if one person can't get a mask, and that asymptomatic person has to get back to work, that undermines everything. ESPECIALLY since no one seems to know how to properly use a face mask anyway. Have you seen what people are doing at the grocery stores with their masks? Hannity on Fox was discussing how you could eat a hot dog and drink a beer with a mask on....this country is an absolute disaster, on so many levels. The lack of plan for even basic face masks is just the tip of the iceberg and represents the larger, ONGOING failure that is going to keep us having rolling lockdowns for at least a year if not longer.

Exactly. The supply of masks on Etsy isn't going to cut it if we really want to "flip the switch" and are sincere about requiring everyone to wear a mask. Why aren't state and local governments recruiting people like dry cleaners to start making masks, and handing them out? I assume that cloth mask production will ramp up eventually and they'll be available more easily, but it's disconcerting, to say the least, that there's not even any discussion about it.

I don't think you grasp how difficult this is. I don't know your set up, but I have no natural areas in walking distance and my house is small. My pay was cut 20%. My kids miss school and friends. I've been mostly at home and in my neighborhood since March 10. The emergency was the only time I've been in anywhere in weeks and now I'm jacked up because of my health. Mental health is the next thing to go and, hence, I will likely run amok here in a minute,

Try yoga or something to cut your percolating anxiety.

I will try it. This is my first experience with anxiety. If I had even a vague hope of things easing up soon, I would feel much better.

Try an app like Headspace or something similar.

Many counties also have mental heath advice and hotlines. I’m in Fairfax, so I know it’s listed on our Fairfax County govt site, I’m sure your county might have something similar.

If you have health insurance, many of them also have started new mental health advice lines. It’s free.

Sometimes it helps to look at the big picture, these few weeks or months are really just a very small piece of your life. Things will get back to normal but it may just not be on your timeline. I’m definitely thinking whatever medical issue you had has added onto your stress causing this anxiety. Focus on being in the moment and thankful for the little things.

How on earth are they talking about opening up when things are still shutting down and 2,000 people in the US are dying each day? It’s too soon.

People who clamoring to flip the switch don’t know the science and they have not been up close and personal with COVID-19. Their attitude will change.

That's allowing the emotion to influence you. The folks clamoring for flip the switch are emotion agnostic and strictly looking at data. That's what Fauci/Birk are doing with this staged approach = data driven.

Huh? You think the QANON people are "data driven"? Nobody data-driven is "clamoring for flip the switch." They are clamoring for actual steps to be taken so we can go back in phases -- like testing, contract tracing capacity, PPE. Nobody on here is disagreeing with Fauci/Birk. The disagreement is with people who say "durr team shutdown wants to kill poor people!"

YES, we will have more Coronavirus cases when we start to gradually reopen. That’s to be expected. There’s no putting the cat back in the bag on this one. There may also be a period when hospitals get close to capacity and we need more shutdowns for a period of time. That’s to be expected too.

If there are less tests, then there will be less positives.

VA and DC still have a testing shortage. Not sure about MD. Seems like they are testing a lot and also have more positives because they are testing more.

I don’t see how DC and VA open without MD.

It's ironic that MD would have a shortage of tests considering one of the biggest manufacturers of covid tests resides right in their backyard (Germantown, MD) - Qiagen/thermo fisher.

Yes because they are the center of power. No because there is no manufacturer of tests there and they are technically not a state so they face more bureaucracy. Anyhow, the whole region should have tests b/c there are companies in its backyard that make this stuff.

Wouldn’t you think Washington DC, the capital of the US and where the president lives would have sufficient tests?

I think schools are done.

VA schools are already closed for the year.

Seems like Bowser wants to open DC schools.

I can't imagine schools opening unless they are considering extending the year and possibly even delaying the beginning of the fall.

I know VA schools are closed. MD - I am leaning towards them closing but I can see Hogan waiting these next 2 critical weeks to make that decision. I think the VA governor was too rushed to make a decision to close for the year. It should have been a wait and see approach. I think Hogan will make that decision in 1-2 weeks. I expect him to close but IF he re-opens, I wonder what that will look like.

My kids are only in elementary but if I had a graduating senior, I would want a prom and graduation. Come back to school and sign yearbooks.

We live in FCPS and even my kids would love to see their friends at school even if there is no learning. I’m pretty sure no one from school was ever allowed back to even collect their belongings.
