No extras. And that’s with two jobs still working for the moment. Conserve conserve conserve cash.

I am paying but don’t judge those not paying. Dh and I are federal managers and have very stable jobs. We’re at an inhome daycare and I bet we’re the only ones paying. We’ve been at our daycare for a long time (3 kids!) and our incomes increased a lot but we still stayed because we love her. I feel like if I stopped paying it would be me financially benefiting from this crisis and I morally can’t do that. So I hope my 2 kids tuitions help! She hasn’t raised her rates in 6 years either.

A few hundred?! Try a few thousand. A few thousand that was already a stretch for us each month and that we can no longer pay because we are losing some of our income. Yep. Fine not to pay if you're not getting the service, but then your slot hel--you'll be scrambling for care when you need it. And if I were the head of the school, I wouldn't be favoring those who abandoned ship when it's time to award spots.

Oh please. Nobody will be “scrambling.” Literally everyone is working from home right now with their children. Sure, your slot may not be held if you don’t pay right now.But “scrambling” to find another provider? What does that look like, SINCE YOU ALREADY HAVE YOUR KIDS AT HOME WITH YOU? Worst case scenario it takes a a few weeks or even a month or so to find replacement care. But plenty of people would be in the same boat. It will take some time for the American workforce to get up to speed again. So

OP, you need to understand that just because someone hasn’t lost their job and still has an income, doesn’t mean that they are guaranteed to keep their job a month from now. Some of us don’t want to pay for a service we aren’t receiving because we need to save that money in case we get laid off or furloughed. It’s not that we don’t care about the teachers. We do. But this is a true, unprecedented crisis and we need to make sure our family can survive in the coming months if we are out of work.

And to assume it’s “just a few hundred dollars” is absurd. My family’s daycare bills are over $4,000 a month. One month of tuition would pay our mortgage for about two months. So please don’t write it off like daycare is a small expense for people. It’s not.
