All of the landscape companies are going to have to make the investment. I’m sure that the workers will be happy not to carry a backpack that is essentially a gasoline tank with a 2 stroke motor attached.

I guess if you are REALLY, REALLY bothered by the gasoline powered leaf blowers, you could buy your bothersome neighbors gardener an electric leaf blower and then never worry about the noise again. You are completely empowered to solve your problem here.

Is your sanity worth $150?

You can spend a bit more if you want to go cordless, but you might have to buy a few extra batteries for your gardener friend as they do tend to die out after a house or two.

Leaf blowing was fine when the poors were able to do it while you were out of the house at your Very Important work. Now you are home, God forbid you are exposed to it.

I bet these same people complain about their HOAs not being strict enough too.

This..

Actually, you are wrong. There was a grassroots movement in the past two years that convinced the DC Council to outlaw loud, belching gasoline powered leaf blowers, effective in 18 months. But yes, now that even more people are working from home and/or concerned with pollution and airborne particles (especially if they have chronic respiratory conditions), the mandated sunset under DC law can’t come soon enough.

First world problem, with workers from the Third World whose hearing is wrecked and lungs damaged by these loud, highly polluting machines. But hey, our lawns look broom-cleaned.

Several comments here are close to racist. But we do live in the era of the Little Man. Those Third World workers do a great job from my experience.

It’s well documented that more marginalized workers bear disproportionate burdens, including more severe health impacts, from air and noise pollution and other unsafe work exposures. Some call it a lack of environmental justice. That’s not racism to point that out. Indeed, enjoying the view of your spotless front walk behind your pricey home’s sound-deadening windows while someone else bears the environmental impact is the essence of entitled racial insensitivity.

You say first world problem. But DC is run like a third world city government.

Then please get the hell out.

In our complex, they seem to be coming out with the leaf blowers and lawn mowers every single day. There is nothing left to cut or blow. I guess they need to bill something. We would all be better off if they were just paid for either saying home or for using a rake or a push broom.

A silly response, needless to say. Having dealt with all 3 governments in the DMV, DC Govt is fairly well run in my long standing experience.

I have to agree, I think it'd be more efficient and less noise pollution etc if the city (or other cooperative group) just went through a neighborhood at a time doing all the mowing and leaf blowing. Just get it done one day a week and the rest of the week we don't have to listen to it all week long May-October. Professional mowers also zip through a lawn so so much faster than a person mowing their own grass.
