It's too much to do no partner in l/d and then no partner in postpartum. Especially since a lot of NYC hospitals no longer have nurseries. So baby rooms in with a mom who just had a traumatic experience

Why don't you just go ef yourself. There are many c sections that are wise and medically recommended but not emergent. My second c section was electively scheduled for 39 weeks because I had an emergency c section due to severe HELLP and preeclampsia during my first pregnancy. My second pregnancy was entirely uneventful and I could have tried for a VBAC. I would likely be cancelled in this environment and who knows, maybe my preeclampsia would have come back, its much higher risk to reemerge after 39 weeks in subsequent pregnancies.

So stop sticking your nose in other women's decisions and being a judgmental jerk during an exceptionally trying time.

It’s one of the largest hospital systems around. In a densely-populated area that may be just a couple weeks ahead of DC on the “curve”. It’s also not just affecting their NYC facilities, but all of the suburban/exurban ones as well. A week ago my OB practice was still on the “one visitor” rule but now look where we are. It’s unfortunately not fear-mongering, it’s reality for some of us.

I just got a news update from my hospital/practice that’s part of the NYP system about it this morning. Due in less than four weeks, and really having a hard time. I was already worried enough about childcare and family visits etc but now the thought of not having my husband there for support and birth is just about too much to deal with on a Monday morning while trying to homeschool and telework ...

In Ontario, Canada they are allowing ONE person in with you for the birth. They have to pack what they need to be there and stay, including their own food. No running home or leaving the maternity ward for anything. Once that one person leaves the maternity ward there will be no re-entry.

Who is going to walk you to the bathroom when your legs feel like jello or bring you water? Or hand the baby to you when you physically can't move? Nurses weren't helpful before with helping tasks and there weren't enough of them.

Yes, I feel like L&D nurses and postpartum staff are more likely to have COVID-19, than the support person you've probably been social distancing with for the past 1-3 months. Banning a spouse "for safety" makes no sense. Is it to protect the spouse from getting exposed to the virus?

And what happens when some of those L&D and postpartum staff start coming down with covid-19 (because you know they will), there's staffing shortages, and no support person available to advocate and help the patient?
