We are basically self isolating. So, we are VERY strict.

We haven't even been to the grocery store for 10 days.
We spray mail or deliveries with disinfectant and wait several hours before touching.

We go on walks but give a very wide birth to anyone we may pass.

Gah my post got buried above. This virus is like the flu. Almost all of us will get it at some point. Like the flu we will develop immunity and a vaccine. We are doing this so we don’t all get it at once. Treating it like something you’re going to avoid at all costs and if someone gets it they’ve done something “wrong” is ridiculous. It’s mistaken. We’re doing this so we don’t all get it at the same time. But we will all eventually most likely get it. Educate yourself a bit.

Actually the whole point of all of these measures is to make it go on longer so the hospitals don’t get overwhelmed at any one point. If you want it over sooner you’d be rooting for everyone to get it at once. And with all the closures we have in the DC area, even imperfect social distancing behavior is still going to help.


You can’t explain science to these kind of people, PP. I think the problem is many people don’t. Look, all of us have likely had the flu at some point. It’s never been eradicated. It never will most likely. We have a vaccine. This virus is like the flu. This is our first time encountering it. We are all likely going to get it at some point. We are trying not to all get it at once. The point is not that nobody is going to get it if they social distance. That isn’t possible. Again. Science.

The point is to stop people from contracting the virus.


Of course we don’t want everyone contracting the virus, but modeling projections predict that 40-70% of people are going to contract it. There are more surfaces and people in the grocery store. Delivery people fill the orders when the store is empty. Delivery is less contact with others.


Instacart fills orders while store open and shoppers in store.

Yep, I’ve seen them breezing through the store, not careful at all. After witnessing it, I decided to continue doing my OWN shopping.

We are being very strict here. No contact with anyone outside our immediate family other than short trips to the grocery store. However, I keep hearing about and seeing friends/neighbors who are letting their kids play with a close friend or neighbor's kid. It seems they have made the calculation that the kids were playing together leading up to all this and they might as well keep interacting as long as all the adults are working from home and not going anywhere other than the grocery store. Except in a couple cases I know for a fact that at least one parent still is an essential worker still working outside the home. It makes me feel like I'm being overly cautious and in the minority for having a close friend/family to ride this out with. It's lonely.

Really strict. Husband is the only one going for limited store runs when we need fresh stuff so we are limiting exposure and contact. We get out when it’s nice for a walk or to do sidewalk chalk on the driveway but nothing else. Kids are FaceTiming friends and we are grounded at home.

That's not true - you may not be saving yourselves from additional exposure but you're saving other people from being exposed to you.

I get that people have to work, but my husband and I decided that, while we both still have full-time jobs, it did not make sense for our nanny to continue coming because her boyfriend still has to go to work. I guess if you have no choice but to send your kid to daycare so you can work it is what it is, but it makes me wonder how hard people are really trying. It isn't easy for us either.
