OP here with an update.

Things are going well. We have the seizures under control and as an added bonus the seizure meds have helped stabilize his mood. He's such a sweet boy and it's nice to see him acting like one again.

This last month has been so difficult and sadly it hasn't gotten any easier. He actually hasn't been to school since I last posted and we are working on forms so he can get a tutor and finish off the year at home.

To add insult to injury he also had a seizure this past week. While his meds wouldn't cause a seizure they lower the threshold. It's all just a big fucking mess. I'm just so lucky that I have a husband who is finally grasping how much we need him emotionally, awesome neighbors that have taken my son out with them so I could get a break and have some one on one time with my other child. One neighbor has an adopted son (now grown) who had similar issues so she knows how to handle him. Thank God. I also have other neighbors that will bring my other kid in to their house in a heartbeat and another who will take them both. With zero family in the area we are just so, so lucky to have a great support system.

I'm actually really glad to have my anon. sounding board too. It's nice to just blow off a lot of steam.

Wouldn't that be awesome, PP? We've tested him for everything under the sun, just in case, and we haven't found anything physically wrong with him yet. I like to hold out hope though.

Good luck, OP. Your son is lucky to have someone advocating for him.

One of my DDs has severe mood swings and tantrums, followed by periods of lethargy, and we were concerned about possible bipolar issues (runs in the extended family) -- turns out the mood swings correlated with extreme blood sugar spikes and drops. We are looking into possible problems with sugar metabolism. You may still find an underlying physical cause.
