Exactly. Who cares about a missed semester when literally everyone is in the same boat?

Not everyone. There are tiger parents who will use this time 110%, and then there are parents who struggle in life or need to work or... you name it. The achievement gap is going to widen even more.

One quarter of the 10th grade class is still planning to start and finish the classroom portion in the 4th quarter of the year as well.

OMG, are you posting this in every thread? I can’t think of many things less important than a driver’s ed class. JFC.

How can they move to the next grade when they didn’t learn the material of the current grade? Especially math? It makes no sense.

It’s public school. Everyone already has all As. Keep up.

Ha! Oh, how I wish this was true.

Where will they put entering first graders? At some point kids have to move on/move up.

Yeah I have a rising kindergartner. Where are those kids gonna go? Not realistic to restart.

Everyone gets pushed back a year, so your child would do another year of preschool.

Ummm. The Rising 5/6 year olds will not repeat preschool. They don’t have seats to keep a majority of students back a grade in these over-crowded schools. They will move to the next grade.

^ my kid does not need to repeat 8th grade. He already has 7 HS credits and all As.

Totally ready for HS.

They won't do that. They'll all move on to the next grade. Missing a semester of school is NBD, except for math. They'll have to do lots of review this fall.

“Review”? No - they’d have to review the first 1/2 of the school year (after such a long break - way more than just the summer drain) *and* cover new material missed from the second 1/2 half. There is no rush. Just repeat the grade for everyone.

Preschool can wait. Seniors can opt out for gap year if they’ve already met requirements. .

Sorry, there is no way she’s finishing that this semester. Start mentally preparing.

This seems like a pretty minor problem in the greater scheme of things. Have some perspective.

NP here. Came here to post just this. I don’t think the kids are going back until fall. At least that’s what I’m bracing for.

I think a sense of normalcy is important, but so is perspective. These are weird times. If we are healthy, we are okay. Nothing else matters that much.

Millions of people were dying dying the Spanish flu.

Only 3,000 Americans have covid 19. Do you know anyone dying? Do you know anyone critically ill? My guess is no.

Wow -- and early one evening in April 1912, only the first couple of decks of the Titanic were getting moist....

That means the parents are going to stay home for six months in order to home-school them.

And the parents will, at the same time, do their regular jobs via telework.

Really?

I guess we'll find out.

What regular jobs? Hoe can these businesses stay afloat? There are going to be a lot more lay-offs.
