Do you want every store to also shut down? How in the world are people on this thread so sheltered and privileged that they think everybody can work from home? There are so many jobs across many industries that can't work from home. What are people supposed to do with their kids?

Arrangements should be made. If you have two parents who both work essential jobs, one needs to stay home. Relatives need to move in.

It’s hard and awful and such a huge problem but if elementary schools are closed then daycares must be closed.

Closed my home daycare up for the next 3 weeks - with no pay. We are usually outside 1-2 hours a day this time of year. Looking to get things set up to provide care outside the majority of the day. Will try to make things as safe as possible to reduce spread should I reopen. I do plan to reopen, but know the covid situation can change quickly. The guilt if it spreads through the daycare would be overwhelming. I do wonder if it is a liability issue too.

It literally takes a village... I've seen several moms online step up and offer to watch another kid or two (not the perfect social distancing but better than being in a daycare full of 10+ other kids) for free for those who need care.

Our pre-k / daycare plans to stay open until they are ordered to close. I do know that there are a number of essential personnel (i am talking medical and police, etc) at the center. So i can understand. But they were 109% understanding, and not surprised at all, when we pulled DS.
Kids with older sibs in (closed) K-12 will almost certainly be pulled.

I’m scared to work in my service industry job. I’m in close proximity to people all day.If our daycare closes at least I’ll have a “reason” to stay home. It will be costly but a relief in this moment.

I’m a Fed. As soon as I get any sort of guidance from our supreme leader regarding allowing us to telework, I will keep our kids home (and trade working with Dh).

If daycares close people have no choice but to take annual leave or lwop. I only have a few days of annual leave and barely any sick leave (I had a baby last year). I’m trying to save it for when we actually get sick with this virus.

You’re fortunate. Many employees cannot work from home.

Most doctors and nurses have kids, as do pharmacists and grocery store employees. They have no choice but to work. If all daycares are closed, who will watch their children?

I see both sides.....it’s a very difficult situation and decision. The failure of our president has made it much worse. There should be funding available to pay workers, who are not essential personnel, to stay home with their children. Essential personnel should get hazard pay in addition to regular pay, funded by the government. If we could just slow 3/4 of the country down, keep them isolated, I believe things would turn around before we become Italy.

Its not jost those folks. State and county governments, social workers, police, any of the helping or service professions.

Thanks for the correction. I did forget other huge essential personnel.
