Sibley - particularly now. The maternity ward is relatively new (built in 2016) and is separate from the ER so it really does feel like you are cordoned off-- in the best way. The delivery and recovery rooms are well appointed. The nurses and lacation consultants were lovely.
You can do a virtual tour of most hospitals so I would explore that.

Holy Cross Germantown is another Kaiser option.

I'm a Kaiser patient, and delivered at Holy Cross SS a few weeks ago. Even though we live closer to Holy Cross Germantown, we decided to go with HC SS as they have a bigger NICU? in case something went wrong. Anyways, I can't speak highly enough about the experience at HC SS. All the nurses/doctors were excellent and attentive.

I believe it’s Reston, Stafford (not that you’re making that trek), VHC, WHC and Holy Cross. I delivered at Sibley, which I know is no longer an option but the Kaiser physicians were fabulous.

Those are the two options in MD and DC. Might be another in VA. They used to offer Sibley as well but no longer do.

Another vote for Georgetown Medstar. Great delivery pre-natal and experience; with the only downside being the food as someone mentioned. But when you have just given birth are both excited + in-pain/on pain meds most of the time, quality of food is not much on your mind I only it on my discharge day really. The post-partum nurses in particular are amazing. I wish we could send some gift basket.

Also, unlike a previous poster, had a perfectly pleasant experience with Dr Orta-Nieves. Always answered all my questions clearly, was friendly and also totally was on board with what I wanted regarding birth experience, etc. She did seem always in a rush (during the pre-natal appts) but I had a standard pregnancy and am familiar with the busy doctor life from some family members. Doesn't mean you don't care for your patients. I would rather them focus on the medicine, not protracted small talk with even low-risk patients.

I loved Holy Cross when I delivered there two years ago. Big rooms. Supportive nurses - they knew I didn’t want to give into an epidural easily and were telling me I was doing great, didn’t need it, etc (but got me one when I was like, no it’s time!). The epidural came in like 15 minutes. Food was decent. Mostly, j love my OB practice and that’s where they are.

Going back this summer for #2.

I delivered DS at Holy Cross Silver Spring a few years ago, and DD a few weeks ago at Holy Cross Germantown; have been with Kaiser for several years and saw Kaiser docs through both pregnancies. Had a good experience at both with supportive OBs and nurses. I did have a birth plan all set up and wanted to walk around, use the birthing balls, etc., but both births ended up being inductions so that idea went out the window. But the nurses and OBs were patient and explained every bit of what was going on. Although DS's birth was long and unpleasant (DD's was much easier and quicker), I have nothing but good things to say about the staff.

DS was born in early September and HCH SS was extremely crowded... I ended up having my induction rescheduled twice, and had to wait to be admitted to a recovery room until someone was discharged. I think one of the nurses said they'd delivered a record number of babies that month. HCH Germantown doesn't deal with as high a volume, so overall it didn't seem as busy and I felt I got more attention the second time around.

Odd quote. Born and raised DC resident here who chose GW due to the Midwives practice. I was fine with both my pregnancies and deliveries (I only go to GW for my delivery and all my appointments in Bethesda MFA location). Also low risk with no complications so can’t speak to NICU or other experiences. Mostly in and out for me.

It’s true. All the women I know who are 30+, well educated, etc who went to GW are those who live very close in, don’t have cars, all that. Recent DC transplants and living that whole intown lifestyle but don’t want to go to WHC. It’s not a bad thing. GW is convenient. Just what I’ve observed.

DC native and I think it’s more about location vs transplant (which suggests people don’t know better). I went with GW for my first after talking to friends and doing research and more than a few others that I grew up with also went with GW. Plenty of people who’ve lived in dc for a long time live close in and want convenient appointments. I agree that the postpartum care is nothing to write home about but the medical care is great and I like the MFA practice. I live closer to Sibley now and I’m going back to GW (in part because I’m high risk and I want a higher level NICU). I don’t think it’s that much different than what I’ve heard about Georgetown or WHC. Sibley is a different story but it’s not that convenient for many in DC.

I’ve lived in DC for 14 years, live in upper NW, and go to GW.
