What I hate is when I get there at 6-6:30-7 and dinner hasn't even been started yet. WTF, get it together people! Get some take out or something if you're that busy. Heat some nuggets or something. I especially hate when it's a week night and I've already worked a full long day and came to your house just expecting a relatively easy gig and now not only do I have to cook dinner, but I also have to clean it up and get your kids to bed. Ridiculous. Nobody wants to deal with that nonsense.
I'd be happy in OPs case where I just have to put the dishes in the dishwasher. If your sitter comes at 6 or later, your kids need to be eating. If they come at 6:30 or later, the clean up should already be done, or at least in the sink. If you're nice, I'll take pity on you and clear the sink after the kids are in bed. If you take advantage of me, I won't.

Because they are four years old.
They have hands, can carry items and can walk to the dishwasher. They can load their own dishes.

NP. For all of you saying just to ask, I asked a sitter (early 20s) to put the containers of food in the fridge after my kids were done eating. I left them out in case they wanted more. One bowl of mac & cheese and one bowl of steamed vegetable. They were in snapware containers with lids next to them. I came home a few hours later to the food containers still out on the table. My kids (4&7) had cleared their plates and utensils into the dishwasher. I guess next time I’ll ask them to put the food away.
I couldn’t believe it. Still can’t.

Same. This thread has obviously been hijacked by lazy sitters.
I don't charge $20/hr--not DC and I don't watch TV. I do usually clean up after the kids and 100% of my work is by referral, so clearly I'm doing something right. I just don't like being taken advantage of. You know in advance you're having a sitter that night--prepare accordingly. If you have an emergency, that's different. I'll pitch in full force--I've taken kids overnight on the fly.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:OP said these are ADULT sitters, not teens--unless I misread. Are you working for free or getting paid? $20+ per hour and you want to just watch TV?!
