I'm from Southern California. Every person I've met who attended the Claremont Colleges was brilliant in one manner or another.

It's a special place. I should have applied there, but I really wanted to get out of SoCal when I was 18.

My white kid was accepted to Pomona. Don't blame affirmative action.

It looks like the white folks should start advocating for sufficient diversity that the % white approaches % white in the general college age population.

Most top schools seem to be quite diverse these days. That said, the percent white is perhaps misleading these days as there is a multi-race option and the decrease in white percentage may not have come from an increase is black and hispanic. It could be just due to an increase in Asian and other categories.

Pomona was probably DC's 1st choice, but he also liked Amherst and Williams. Counselor said either Amherst or Williams were a better shot during ED than Pomona. In the last several years only kids from his school with a hook - athlete, URM, legacy - have gotten into Pomona. So DC applied ED elsewhere and got in.

The Clairemont Colleges are great. We spent 2 days there touring them and DC would've applied to both Pomona and CMC RD given the chance.

Acceptance rate for men was 9% and for women it was 6%. Overall 7.4%.

Given what is reported above, it does not appear that being from DC gives anyone an advantage. There is no lack of representation. Of 416 enrolled freshmen, 11 are from Washington, DC, 20 are from Maryland, and 23 are from Virginia.

What strikes me is that 19% are first gen.

I think they make a real effort to admit/support first gen (which is great, but it doesn't make it any easier for UMC people around here to get in, esp when class size is smaller than most high schools)
