She likes to be comfortable and clothes/hair are a battle for us. She hates when I brush her hair. She hates any fancy. She is a t shirt and leggings girl.

We had a kid with sensory issues. Finding a t-shirt that goes with the theme is often a good way to go. (I.E. t-shirt with picture of BUzz lightyear vs. an astronaut costume). There's probably a t-shirt with something princessy on it available at someplace like Walmart.

It's all about money. "Disney Princesses" is the official name of a media franchise created in the early 2000's by a Disney exec. It's used for licensing (Hasbro games, Mattel dolls, Stride Rite sneakers, Glidden paint, Fisher Price figurines, etc.). Other characters are franchised separately; Elsa is part of the Frozen franchise, Tinker Bell is in the Disney Fairies franchise, there's a franchise for Descendants and Star Wars, and so on. Therefore, technically only the 12 named above are considered "Disney Princesses" because they are part of the related franchise. I still remember when they added Merida back in 2013...my kids were the right age to be really interested in her and they insisted on watching the coronation ceremony Disney held at the Magic Kingdom.

As far as OP is concerned, I'd let my kid wear whatever she wanted to the party although I'd probably toss a dress in the car just in case she changed her mind. But nobody said she had to be a named, recognizable princess, or even a more traditional one who wears a dress and/or tiara. Modern-day princesses wear pants! My older kid had a princess themed party one year. The venue provided the costumes, and not only did they also have knight costumes, everyone was fine with the kids who chose not to wear one at all.

I have Disney+ and the entire stars wars franchise is on there. They’re even making a new show! The Mandolorians.

I don’t know what Stars Wars used to be, but it is definitely a big part of the Disney brand now. For our kids generation it’s going to be a given that Star Wars is a Disney story - especially as there are more and more adventurous princesses like Moana.
