You can find the reasons why the south seceded in their declarations, many if them citr that the north wasn't following the Constitutions fugitive slave clause, which is true. So slavery related, but more complex than many allege.
Also keep in mind that slave holding states did fight for the union. So again more complex...

Instead of slavery, the northern states found other ways to suppress blacks and minorities, including segregated housing laws, under-funding education and other social service agencies, and the "strategic" placement of Interstate highways and other expressways.
I grew up in MA. New England also had the ability to use centuries-old town boundaries to enforce segregated communities, creating some of the most lopsided inequality in the country. Check out Lawrence. Check out Mattapan. Check out Hartford.
This notion that the north is somehow morally superior to the south on matters of race is complete and utter BS. There remains much more to the story than slavery.
Celebrating the Confederacy is more than celebrating slavery and racism, it’s also celebrating treason.
Lee and Jackson were US traitors.
Sorry to learn you slept through any study of the Civil War.
You mean I wasn’t subject to southern brainwashing?
The “War of Northern Aggression” was about slavery. And the Confederates chose to commit treason and were ultimately responsible for the deaths of 620,000 Americans.
Thanks for confirming my earlier suspicion!

+1 Yes - fellow New Englander here.

+1 The difference is that the northern states would be horrified to acknowledge in celebration anything today that remotely is related to segregation or slavery. Rather, they are ashamed of it. They don't embrace it.
The North is still practicing it. Go visit. Fairfield County, CT, is a good place to start.
