I have a 14 year old Maren and I will say we’ve only had a positive experience with her name. She loves that people always comment how pretty it is and also that she never had to be “Maren L.” In school. She’s finishing up eighth grade and recently one teacher misspelled her name “Marren”
But that’s the only time that’s happened. It’s uncommon but pretty, and it suits my Maren perfectly. Congratulations on your baby girl!

The Irish form of this name is Muireann

I taught a Maren, pronounced MAHR-in (Scandinavian last name) and a Merrin, pronounced MARE-in. Both pretty names.

Yup. I know an 8 year old Mairin with very Irish roots. She's a lovely girl, and I think it's a great name.

Indeed. It is Celtic/Gaelic name meaning 'star of the sea.' I know a young woman with this name. Lovely girl, lovely personality--I have good associations to it

Here on the west coast it would be pronounced “maa-rin” like Marin county. Not sure that’s what you want.

And in an area like DC with lots of international people, we would naturally call it “mar-ren” if you spell it Maren.

Best chance of everyone saying “Mair-ren” if that’s what you want then you should probably spell it Mairen.
