I think OP has her answer. This would be a really controversial gift.

DCPS WiFi blocks a whole bunch of stuff including Spotify and even Google unless you can log in to their firewall workaround as a staff member, which you can’t do on any device not issued by DCPS (including your phone or laptop).... so I’m shocked they’d even work in DCPS classrooms?

I'm not worried that Alexa will spy on my kid (I know they will) but I am worried about what kinds of questions fellow students will ask Alexa. I can here it now: how are babies made? Rude sounds? All the swear words?

Of all of the possible negative things that could happen to my child at school, someone possibly listening to a conversation in the classroom on an Alexa (which the owner can opt out of) is not on the list.

My niece at a W school says they are in several of her classes.

There are NO privacy issues. There's not an actual person listening in. Some classrooms actually have video cameras in them so the principal can monitor you. THAT is something I would be unhappy about as a teacher.

Sweetie, can you support your statement?

If not I can help with actual facts so please do not distribute unchecked information. This, from CNN:

Amazon reportedly employs thousands of people to listen to your Alexa conversations

when you call someone “sweetie” it just makes you look bad so that no one cares what you say. You lose your credibility .

Okay then, Sugar cube, don't get so edgy, just look at the facts.
