Anonymous wrote:Long Cycle here, and I got a positive over the weekend! Wanted to share my lessons learned....for me, I ovulated VERY late this cycle. Day 31. I have had several months of 38 day cycles since going off the pill and never had a positive OPK (but also gave up testing well before day 31). This time around, I just kept testing on opks and got a positive on day 31, and now, two weeks later, I'm pregnant. Stick with it and good luck, everyone!
If not, based on timing it looks like we have to wait until January to try the IUI due to travel around Christmas. I wasn't sure how long it would take to get an appointment (it was the next week) so I called early. He asked my last two periods and I told him the number of days in each cycle but he really didn't seem concerned that I hadn't hit exactly 6 months.
Are you TTC your first?

-Initial appointment ($20 copay)
-Initial Ultrasound
-HSG
-Two rounds of bloodwork
-Follow up ultrasound to confirm no cysts (maybe $20 copay?)
-Husband semen analysis
-Follow up appointment to discuss above results ($20 copay)
At the 1st follow up, he sent my husband for a follow up semen analysis and that we had to pay out of pocket for ($189).
I have Aetna with DC Government. The plan says it covers all diagnostics for infertility. Then it goes to 50% coinsurance for IUI, which is at the negotiated rate, so it's $187 I pay per cycle. I have no coverage for infertility drugs, so those are all out of pocket. We normally do $500 in our FSA so I upped it to $1,000 this year. We have no IVF coverage, but aren't sure we'd do it anyway. I did have to enroll in an infertility program with insurance, which was free, but took about 45 minutes on the phone to enroll. I think it's just making sure we've tried everything first. A nurse then called to follow up and was actually helpful going through the procedures AND what they will pay for.

I took another pregnancy test this morning and I’m pregnant. It’s our first and I’m terrified it won’t stick but for now I’m just staying positive.

Congrats!!! I hope you have a healthy pregnancy. Do try to stay positive and think happy thoughts!!
And ME, I’m sorry and hope the Dr offers answers. We’re headed down the RE road in January if these next cycles don’t work. My OBGYN really brushed off my concerns because our first was easily conceived...except I was 33 then and now I’m 39. So frustrating.
Jena
Jena, I could have written your post! I posted earlier than I am just now getting positive OPKs on day 31 of my cycle - what the heck! Anyways, making an RE appointment for January.

You may not want to wait until January. I’m the one who posted about my RE experience. Started testing in September but took a few weeks to get all the tests completed since the day of your cycle matters. I go tomorrow to start first IUI cycle. I would go now and use this time to get the initial testing done then be ready to start cycles in January if needed. Of course I know it depends on your situation, but wanted to share the timing info if it’s helpful!
