Italy wasn’t a country until late 1800s.
He was likely Portuguese anyway.

There were people already here before Columbus. Get over it.
If Columbus didn't discover America because there were already people here, then, by that standard, pretty much no one can discover anything at all.
I mean, we know America was settled via the land bridge. Sorry there's no person we can name for that.
“America” was “settled” by Europeans. Yes, there were “natives” from the land bridge crossing that were here, but it was not “settled” in the usual sense of that term. The current way of life here and everything you enjoy, including this forum was due to the fact that Europeans settled the NA and SA continents. If this had not happened, life would be much different for you. In fact you might not even be alive. Then again maybe we’d all be better off. Hard to say.
We all need to stop apologizing for the past, stop complaining about and emphasizing our differences and instead focus on our common goals and beliefs (freedom, opportunity, legal rights, self-actualization). Strive for a fair and non-biased (as much as humans can) future. We can start by stamping out dictatorships. Here’s the full list.

Don't worry, give it time and some someone will one day say about these that we need to stop complaining.
