Replaced with what? More turf or back to grass?
Dont know. The article did mention it. I guess with a new artificial turf. If it costs $1.2M to install a new one and cost$ $700K to removeit costs it every 10 years, plus $20k to maintain it, MCPS will spend at least $220k annually on the turf for each HS or MS.
That is a lot of money for a school system that can’t afford textbooks and has overcrowded schools.
How much does MCPS spend on maintaining the grass fields?
Someone is making a TON of money off this endeavor.

Somehow the bottom line is always: how does this affect parking.
Parking sucks at most schools as is, so this is a moot point.
It is particularly bad at JW as it is basically at a 270 intersection. There is almost no street parking near by.
A lot of people live within walking/biking distance of JW. And there's also the T2, the 47, and the 56. If more people who can walk/bike/take the bus actually walked/biked/took the bus, then there would be more parking spaces available for people for whom walking/biking//taking the bus isn't an option.
A few neighborhoods are in walking distance..but not many. Do those Ride Ones really have the capacity to transport 100 of parents all leaving at the same hour in the late evening? I live in WG. There is no bus that would help us get to JW. Falls grove, Kings Farm, Derwood, Parc Potomac, College Gardens all very large communities outside of walking distance. They were already breaking back to school night into two nights to accommodate space wise and that was with the field filled with cars.

I thought Potomac Soccer and Bethesda Soccer we're the ones with all the money...

Parks and Planning can't keep up with the need for soccer fields. It's a cultural thing that is a byproduct of the demographic changes in the county.
Sadly you are right. And I hate everything about MSI and their bloated money making company. Forcing kids to play year round to stay on the same team. We left as soon as they said that. I want my kids to play multiple sports and thankfully softball and volleyball are their favorites. And the kids speak English!

Why is MSI pushing for turf so hard?? My kid plays on MSI and they should know better that turf is not good for kids.
MSI is pushing for turf because grass fields = cancelled games and practices. Turf fields don’t get closed when it rained 1.5 inches yesterday but is clear blue sky today. Grass does.
