VSCO is short for Visual Supply Company.

I don’t think anyone is saying they identify with VSCO or being “embarrassing“ they are simply musing that fashions and trends come back in and are cyclical. Many late 30s are in the exact age group where the whole look you’re describing and the “earth day” mindset was kind of cool when they were in high school, depending on the locale (I’m from a crunchy west coast town and this was big when I was in hs).

Im wearing an oversized 20 year old DMB shirt (I’m 38) and Nike shorts. I had no idea there was a name for my outfit for Sunday chores and football but here we are.


I think it’s cute too. Definitely a trending I support. Any girls or boys who make fun of it are lame.

How is this thread mean? No one is insulting these girls, we are just trying to understand it because drinking out of a hydroflask and wearing baggy t-shirts hardly seems distinguishing enough to warrant a label.

Could have said that same thing about describing someone as "trendy" once upon a time, right?

My 8th grader insists that "basic" is not an insult (anymore?), it just means a fashion is common or part of the uniform. So she is proudly basic -- sometimes-- and sometimes not, and sometimes it's hilarious, and sometimes she is sobbing for no apparent reason listening to AirSupply's greatest hits.

I am this P, I should add that we also use metal straws. But that may have been because of me, as I usually keep metal straws in my purse. I believe we only have one earth and as a family we’ve been using reusable flasks of any sort for a number of years and if my daughter currently wants a Hydro flask, I happily oblige.


Nobody cares! We aren’t here to discuss a middle aged mom’s environmental beliefs.


Also, straws are such a tiny percentage of the actual problem, I judge people who are buying into the propaganda. Try and focus on real change. Maybe invent a machine that recycles straws.
