We give about $1000/year to our church. It's much less than 10% of our income, though definitely the biggest receiver of our miserly giving.

No. In the 1950s. The main pastor kept his salary intact. Grandfather joined a better church, and pursued a different, related profession. Just because someone says they are Christian, doesn’t mean the faith changes their heart. It was a very sad situation.

When the church won't pay pastors enough to feed their kids, it's definitely time to look for another job -- and maybe question their faith.

I stopped tithing because I realized I was far poorer than the pastor, the class divide started to be obvious and it made me feel uncomfortable.
Then I started to research the doctrine of tithing and found this to be a 20th century invention.
The Bible does not expect tithing from women

No progressive Dem would judge a church or its members like that -- progressive Dems are accepting and welcoming of everyone.

We give $1500/year but also volunteer our time quite a bit. I used to feel bad we didn’t give more until I realized how wasteful the church is in spending huge amounts on a social media manager (40 hrs/week - seriously?! I could do what they do on social media in 30 minutes a week) and similar outsourcing of every minute task that I feel show a lack of efficiency and wastefulness.

Around $600/month. Only DH attends church.
