It seems super weird, but maybe that's my internal bias talking. My 11 and 9 year old girls have taken baths and showers together recently for fun. For whatever reason it hasn't seemed too weird to me, so I guess that I find boys doing it weird, well I have to think about that.

But if its just to save time, it does seem odd kinda. Sounds like something a 5 minute shower would solve.

I'm pretty sure showers are not the way we are going to save the environment. Eat a few less steaks and more beans, take less trips on airplanes. But cramming 12 year olds into one shower to save a few gallons of water is a HUGE waste of your emotional energy and doing nothing for the environment.

But hot water heaters in Europe aren't as good as they are here so it doesn't matter what nationality they are. Lack of unlimited hot water is the issue.

Because they grew up having to take showers together due to lack of hot water. It's conditioning. I would think the kids would be like "Yay! Look at this big shower and all of the hot water you could ever want" when they got to America.

OP, you forgot to tell this PP that they are the American kids of your American sister who are showering in America AND that they grew up in America. Please also advise whether they have ever been to Europe or watched any BBC shows.

Unusual, but not weird. I have twins and mine are younger. Mine typically shower separately, but at night. There are some nights when we come home late and they're tired and neither one wants to wait for the other to shower, so they just climb in together, shower quickly, get dressed and got to bed. I've known other twins who normally shower separately, but on occasion, shower together. In this situation with middle school kids, my first guess is that they all want to sleep as late as possible, so they all wake up at the last minute and don't have time for separate showers, so all jump in together to get ready for school quickly and then tumble out, get dressed, shove some breakfast down quickly and the head for the bus. Or something like that.

It is more unusual if they do it every day, but as a once in a while thing, or perhaps just while staying at your house, instead of at home, but not weird in general.

I have a cousin who is the same age as me. We took showers together in the summer until we were about 10.

As an adult, I shower with DH every morning. We have two shower heads in our shower. It saves time.

I'm actually quite modest and I don't really find weird--maybe a little different, but not weird. My guess is that there is zero hot water for #2 or #3 and not enough time if they only have 1 or 2 showers in the house. Locker rooms are probably worse for boys--a lot of inappropriate talk and some bullying.

Families can be close and casual without it being weird. I'm still after my twelve year old DS to shut the bathroom door and that I don't need *every* detail about his bodily functions...but he's just not embarrassed. That's him, and it's fine.

I remember around age 13 or so showering with two friends. We had been swimming. We fit, we all showered. We had a normal size tub. We thought it was hilarious. Why, I have no idea.

Probably some day soon the boys will want privacy.
