I'd leave my 15 yo home alone for a night if absolutely necessary. She's mature enough to handle any emergencies, and I'm not at all worried about drinking, parties, etc. She's simply not the type (she'll be the first to tell you that she hates parties and doesn't like being around people all that much. And there's no alcohol in the house even if she were inclined, which she isn't...kid doesn't even drink soda, preferring water and milk.).

My 13 yo would need to change/mature A LOT before turning 15 for me to leave her alone. Not that I think she'd throw a wild party, drink, etc. (although that would be more likely than her sister ever doing any of those things). But she's extremely emotional and not as clear thinking, and wouldn't be able to handle an emergency calmly.

My mom left me home alone at 16 or so for a night but I was a mature kid. She would've never done the same with my brother! I wouldn't leave my DS home alone at that age as he is more like his uncle than me.

Is getting arrested for an out of control party, smoking pot and drinking and getting raped, not a safety concern? As for teen having sex with a boyfriend that is, I think, least of concerns for most parents of teens. Of course, we worry about that too, but it is getting a citation and parents being held responsible and sued that is the issue. Do you have teens? If not, please stop with faux outrage.

You don't have teens, do you? Neighbor would be the one calling the police clearly. Do you think kids would be deterred by threat of a boarding school? Do you think all the parents can afford boarding school? I dislike people who don't have teens giving their opinion and being "really surprised." Do you realize in how much legal trouble parents can be if something happens in their house? Even if they are not there? 80s are gone baby when we could party till morning and nobody cared.

Really surprised everyone is so against this. Wouldn’t your neighbors notice if your kid had a party? My neighbor’s kid did that and she was off to boarding school.

I never would have done anything like that as a teenager.
