I've known people pulled over for 5+ the speed limit in Virginia. (and this wasn't 123 heading toward the Beltway) I doubt the whoooole line of car were going double the speed limit. Anyway, that doesn't make it normal. As many times as you say it. It's not normal to travel 20+ -- that's why it's called reckless.

I get it, rushing, single mom, but be safer in the future, you are the only parent you kids have! You have to take care of yourself(meaning no jail time for speeding) so that you can take care of them. At least it was in person, I hate the socialist speed cameras.

If you or a loved one ever got hit by a car that was speeding in your neighborhood you would love these cameras. I would love one in my neighborhood where people speed all the time.

I wonder how OP and you would feel if a car was going 60 in your neighborhood while you were out walking with your kids. Probably p.o.'d at the driver, right?

What? Are you nuts? I am not ok with people speeding like that, nor people biking recklessly, nor people jay walking... Just because I said, don't do it again and be careful doesn't mean I am all for people speeding! She made a mistake, she is paying for it, isn't that how the legal system works?

But you hate speed cameras that would probably force speeders like OP to slow down in residential areas? Why would that be? I'm all for speed cameras in residential areas where I know people speed all the time. I don't mean 5 miles above the speed limit, but more like what OP was doing.

I feel that speed camera are illegal and ineffective.

I've gotten reckless in VA (on I-66, at night.. 78 in a 55). Had my driving privileges suspended in VA for 30 days. Would've had my license taken away, but I lived in DC and they can't take your license if you're from another state, just suspend your driving privileges in their state.

Get a lawyer. If you're in VA, you could very well get your license taken for 30 days, and don't plan to drive on a suspended license -- it's an arrestable offense.

MD is 30 over to get a reckless, VA is 20 over (or going 80+, regardless of how far over). I'm always careful in on VA highways.

So, you knew to slow down, but you didn't realize how much you were accelerating after you slowed down? I'm sorry... you must've been totally checked out driving, which is scary, in and of itself. I have a very fast car. I can tell when I'm accelerating that much. Maybe you need to get a car that can't accelerate that quickly if you aren't aware of how quickly you are accelerating. That's a powerful machine you have there to be unaware of how you are using it.

I’m 52 years old and have been driving since I was 14. I can’t say that I’ve never driven over the speed limit. But I can say that (1) I have never had a speeding ticket. And (2) I would never - under any circumstances- drive that fast through a neighborhood. That isn’t just speeding. It’s intentional disregard for the safety of others- including your own child.

They may have been speeding but you don't know for sure if they were also ticketed for reckless driving.
