I don’t get this at all, unless it’s part of a larger issue with a kid shirking responsibilities. I live in DC, my kids were born here, and I try to spend as little time as possible in the car. Driving is, statistically, one of the worst things you can do for your health and for the environment. I think it would be great if my kids didn’t get their licenses at 16. They’re tweens and already adept at public transportation, so it’s not like they’re sheltered or needy.

There are plenty of places where it is seemed crazy to give keys to a car that could kill or maim and yet those same kids aren't allowed to vote here.

I get it America is a car culture and it is important to learn however if you don't I don't think it is a moral failure or sign of any indulgence.

What happened to different strokes for different folks? So. If we don't live the way you think we should than we are losers?

My kids are getting their liscences but a bit later do I am not talking about my family.

Yeah, my kid is 18 and will be off to college soon. Got his permit 2 years ago and has shown literally no interest aside from a few random parking lot lessons. There’s no car waiting for him, and he couldn’t afford maintaining one, much less insuring one, even if there was. There are enough bad drivers on the road already.

Well, not so much needed anymore. Especially in big cities. If public transportation can’t get you there, Lyft and Uber can. It comes at a cost but so does insuring a teenager to drive.

I agree with big cities of course. But I want my kid to have the option or at least know WTF to do if they need to get from A to B and a car is their only option. Stranded at airport in middle of nowhere, renting a house in some fantastic countryside, crusing around an island vacation somewhere etc. I don't even have a car but would feel lost without knowing I can drive
