I can’t believe all these people against OP (even before she posted the last bit). Being a nanny is a JOB. If I ask my boss permission to do something and she says no, I won’t go ahead and do it anyway! It is irrelevant if I am a phenomenal employee I would still get a warning in trouble if I went against policy. This is the same thing! OP said no to the request to take her child to the nanny’s house. She does not need to provide a reason why. Period.

She sounds like a basically decent person who made an irresponsible, inappropriate decision.


I was 100% anti-OP until I read the nanny’s explanation. Now I’m team OP. While the nanny get some points for finally coming clean what she did was so totally uncool. I would never give that nanny a good reference.


Nannies get fired for much less egregious behavior. OP let her keep her PTO that she got paid for while farming OP's kid off on a stranger.

It’s good that you talked to her directly to find out the truth. It’s good that you were honest about the reference.

+1 I would be livid if my nanny left my small child with someone I'd never met without my permission. Good thing you asked her what really happened and that she was honest about it.

Let it go. Why open this can of worms now??? If you have a nanny you must expect that things are happening that you don't approve of. Yes nannies are not clones of you and you must be release control.

I do not expect anyone else to take care of my kid. Sorry, but this is your choice. Seems like your kid was well cared for and generally ok. So pick your poison. A person who stayed at your house and was cold towards your child, or a person who took your child her house because she was moving etc but was generally nice to your child.

Your child was happy with her and she took care of him. Please stop treating her like a lowly employee and appreciate what she has done for your kid. You seem to be a very nasty person.

Do you have any documentation that you prohibited her from taking your child to her apartment? If you give a poor referenced and she sues for loss of income/slander, can you prove you said no. Her providing the pictures to you imply permission was given.
