I don't know if it's envy or what, but there's definitely some folks who just hate the club and will write these long scenarios, twist and turn them and use the word "fact" a lot, just to try and tear the club down. Truly there's a great deal of talent in the area and more than one team can succeed. Tearing each other down is childish and lame. Unless we're playing each other, we don't really need to root against each other. (StJFCV, Loudoun, MU, etc....)

If you think you have it bad about being "torn down" you should read over any of the five different threads dedicated to bashing Spirit.

This is moving the goalposts. I will agree on one thing. Too many "elite" level teams for one area will dilute the talent. However, the GDA (at this moment) still provides the top level of soccer especially for the younger ages. FCV is the top of THAT level and will be a desirable destination. Could things change? Of course. At the moment, Arlington MU and FCV(STJ) are competing for GDA players. Arlington will get their share, MU is full of uncertainty in terms of viability and success and FCV has some questions given the STJ merger. How this all plays out is a GUESS nothing more. As far as next year goes, what is most likely is that FCV will still have the strongest girls teams at the ages having ECNL and GDA in the area. The ECNL clubs will battle each other for the same players and are doing so right as we speak and it is a crap shoot on who wins that battle (my money is on McLean since Clyde and Nadir are there) and VDA (protected by geography). FCV will keep almost all of their top players so expecting things to drop off isn't realistic for next year. MU will improve albeit slightly as rosters supposedly shrink. Arlington will likely have little turnover as well since they have shown that historically.

But to come on here and say that Loudoun is all of a sudden going to go gangbusters at the older ages is just hoping against historical evidence.

You want to strike a balance to be top tier destination club. In the days of just ECNL FCV and McLean were top tier destination clubs in the area. With DA and ECNL expanding both clubs have lost their destination moniker.

It is disturbing if most of the players at club were recruited and it is just as disturbing if there is very little outside interest either.

I'm sure FCV management can spin this to the parents that "of course there was heavy outside interest, it is just that our kids are just so well developed and so much better than anyone else who came."

And that is likely true of those who came but it is unlikely that the absolute best players truly came either. So the comment is true but the scale has adjusted to make it so.

Well the truth is the landscape has changed and FCV is likely to rely on homegrown players more than ever before going forward. Despite their success, success gained in a very diluted landscape, it will be more difficult than ever to draw players in from the outside. Frankly, there are just to many viable options available to players today. Most savvy parents understand that if their kid is going to be recruited and college is a goal there are more opportunities to be seen now than ever before. And with those opportunities comes meaningful playing time. Playing means fun AND exposure.

To prove the PP's point.... look at the FCV 2007 DA. Almost all the players came from the FCV 2007 team. That is a good team, to be sure, but the fact that so many of them "advanced" suggests there was less interest from players from the outside than the club has seen in previous age groups.

Listen buddy, you don’t know what you are talking about. Get out of your world of 18 year olds and talk to the parents of the younger teams. You’ll find all the answers there, including the truth I shared with you but for some bizarre reason you are in denial of.

My daughter played at Ashburn Soccer back when she was a U-little. When the merge happened, most of the higher level players came from the Ashburn side, complemented by a few that came from the then recently created FCV (aka South County). Many of those players are still playing high level soccer (ECNL and DA) but most are not playing it at FCV. SOME, but definitely not 50%.

This is exactly right, unlike the FCV u19 parent’s account.

1-3 players per team is a lie. Period. It is more than that. Regardless, the DA is the top level and should be drawing from all over especially when the team is the best team around in each age group. Why wouldn't players want to come and why wouldn't the team take them? Because you don't like it that way?
