On the one hand I’m sure it’s not intended to be a nazi symbol but on the other hand you have to be intentionally ignorant or lie to claim not to see it, which is absolutely perfect for a “Southern” brand.

I know I’m a bit late to the party but this threat popped up when I searched “Is simply southern a dog whistle?”. First off, I’m southern and have lived in the Deep South my whole life along with all my family, and I can promise you not one person I know unironically owns something simply southern unless they are the classic mean, white, 30 year old soccer mom. Their products are incredibly overpriced and tacky, not even mentioning the offensively ignorant graphic design of their logo.
Recently I went into a store with my mother that had a section of Simply Southern and saw the giant “SS” anagram on the wall above it. This struck me immediately as anyone in their right mind who learned any shred of world history is sure to know the history of the Nazi party, specifically the SS, right?
My question is, how the hell did something so blatantly offensive slip by a whole team of designers and most likely even the owners. While the south is notorious for allowing offensive and racist things to exist, this is on a whole new level…
