Your mom doesn't share the day with you? That sucks of her. Of course you should be recognized on Mother's Day. Your parents and your husband are not doing right by you.

I really just want a fun day planned with my kids and DH. I get that i'm not his mother. I also get that I have to plan a fun day for my mom with my kids. So I end up planning everything for everyone else and thanking everyone else. I just get overlooked. Which is the purpose of mother's day in the first place- to celebrate those under appreciated people in you life- mothers. The day makes me feel less appreciated than if it didn't even exist.

It doesnt though. Birthdays dont always fall on a weekend when your husband can take over the kids. Also for thise who work, then they at work on their bdays when its not on a weekend.


DP. My bday gift to myself is taking the day off work and going to a spa for a massage
Lately my bday has been on the wknd and it hasn’t worked out for me to do it on my exact bday so I gave myself a rain check and did it on another date. I feel I understand that I am able to celebrate things on other days if needed and that’s what I would do for mother’s day if I had to celebrate my MIL that day or whatever (mine doesn’t live locally, so we just call her for Mother’s Day).

So, until your kids are old enough, claim it for yourself. Take your kids to the movies. Order Chinese or a pizza or go to whatever restaurant you love. Toss him the kids and announce (don't ask, TELL) him that you are going out for a pedicure and a coffee and you'll be back in an hour.

Kids generally do not truly appreciate their mom until they are adults, often with children of their own. I cannot imagine taking issue with celebrating Mother's Day with my mom or MIL.

"You've had 30 years" seems so damn tone deaf and mean. Right now I see my kids every day. My husband is an equal partner, so I do not need to be alone on Mother's Day, or have my kids with me. However, in 10-15 years I hope that I'm not left out of Mother's Day simply because they marry and have kids of their own.

Do you want to know why I get grouchy about my MIL? Because her birthday is the weekend after, and we ALWAYS do something nice for her birthday. Because every celebration with her is exactly the same … on HER terms, her timing, her location. She barely even talks to my kids. She likes her children to bow down to her, but she likes the idea of being celebrated more than she seems to like any of the people. It's really exhausting.

So just declare the sunday before or after your birthday as your mother's day (if you are forced to spend the real one elsewhere doing things you don't want to do) and then enjoy the day as you see fit. Hell, pick a random saturday or sunday that works well for your favorite season, lull in work schedule, the numbers in the date add up to something meaningful, whatever. It's your day! If you need this on the real mother's day, then you just want to be able to post about how much your family loves you on social media to get into a pissing contest with other moms. If it's truly just about wanting/needing a day focused on you from your kids and family, you can make that whatever day works best for your schedule.


Why can't the 60+ year old moms do this?
