MCPS has a history of not checking Maryland court records before hiring. If they had, Colin Black (Einstein) never would have been hired with a former charge of public urination and basically a history that adds up to alcoholism. If MCPS does not do this due diligence, parents have to.

I think that teachers should be better paid. I also think that they should be role models for our children. Yes, that means keep your bikini pics to your own set of adult friends. Use your privacy settings. Stop friending my teen on Instagram.

Do you also check on your pediatrician? Your child’s coach or private music teacher? The clergy at your house of worship? The parents of your child’s friends?

No one “friends” anyone on Instagram.

Let me get this straight, you let the pediatrician privately examine your teen without checking his court record on case search, but you are freaked out that a teacher is openly following your son on Instagram? Or do you stay in the room while your high schooler has his physical?

Good point. I guess that I have more trust in the monitoring of the state licensing board for doctors than I have in MCPS. The pediatrician does not see my child everyday, however. Daily interaction more easily leads to grooming and casual conversations.

You shouldn't. After a bad interaction with a doctor (not a pediatrician) I looked them up in the MD Board of Physicians website and found that their license had been revoked in multiple other states, but MD reinstated their license after multiple infractions, including after catching the doctor practicing during the time their license had been suspended!

And to the poster above, yes, I personally check as many people as possible especially after that experience with the doctor. It is very easy for people to slip through through the cracks. These databases are public for a reason, so the public CAN check, and try to ensure their own safety.

Not the PP who you are trying to ridicule, but I do check on our doctors/dentists, etc. The State of Maryland Licensing Boards have an online list of any disciplinary actions taken against licensees. It’s worth checking, if you don’t.

It’s completely reasonable when dealing with your kids.
