Counterpoints to your valid argument:
-I think it is morally defensible, this is just another example of privilege but on a grand stage. Her ultimate motivator was trying to give her children the best education, chance, etc available. That’s not an absurd way to feel as a parent. Correct, majority of parents can’t afford to do what she did and an even larger majority would never take an illegal action like she did, but the motivator is a common feeling amongst parents. Always striving for the best for your child.
-unlike other crimes, who did she and her husband directly hurt? If two other kids were disadvantaged by her lies, they’ll be able to collect their restitution via lawsuit.
