5 isn't 2. A 2 year old is apt to do such a thing, but most parents would immediately correct the behavior. But a 5 year old? He should know better.

Library: Well no not at all since it is a place for quiet sedate behavior
Mall: I would put this in the same category as the rec center and not care as long as they were not infringing on another person's space. Ma;;s are boisterous and loud.
Waiting area at the ER: How long have we been waiting? How crowded is the ER? If its empty and we've been there for an hour I'd probably look the other way. If there's a bunch of sad looking people no way. If we've been there for 10 minutes and they're bouncing around then no.
Restaurant: There are sofas at restaurants? Since this is a place where people expect to sit and eat in peace then no it would clearly not be appropriate to play and goof off here.

A rec center's PURPOSE is rec.

A mall is not a playground. What kind of people take their kids to the mall on a beautiful day anyway? Feet do not belong on places where people sit indoors every. Doesn't matter how small they are! A rec center has places for recreation and places for sitting and waiting. Just because it is a rec center doesn't mean it is Thunderdome.

I bet I spend my life more at peace than you do. I try to keep my kids from being a nuisance, but no I still never be able to muster this level of irritation from seeing a kid jump on a mall couch no. Especially someone else's kid. Jump away other kid, enjoy your childhood.

Not sure where I said I bring my children to malls only on beautiful days
