Is Maryland United not an option? Also, I hear mixed reviews on the talent level at FC Bordeaux, so it might be worth it to go to a tryout to see the level for your age group for yourself. The coaches themselves are known to be excellent.

If you are coming from a big club, most likely.
We have always seen other kids from our Club.

PP - "club in FFX, U9 coach" do you mean fairfax county or fairfax city - fairfax county has a bunch of teams, and fairfax city has 2 clubs, braddock road and fairfax police.

Nobody owes the Club anything. You pay for a year. You play for a year. No need to tell the coach, where in the majority of cases he/she won’t even be the coach next year. You also want the option of staying if kid changes their mind later. The spring season has not even started. Why make it awkward for your kid with the Club/coach writing them off as a goner? Some are nice/still don’t need early notification for something that does not affect Spring season availability and some will be jerks and mess with kid’s playing time/starting, treat them differently.

With all of the coach horror stories on this thread, I’m very curious how coaches are paid by the club.
Do they get a percentage based upon the number of players they recruit or on their team(s)? Do the clubs give the coaches bonuses based upon win/losses or GotSoccer rankings?
There has be be a reason why these coaches make it so personal.

This is one of many reasons why travel soccer is pure insanity. Clubs have no loyalty whatsoever to kids or families and will cut your kid in a heartbeat if they can get better players from outside the club. But God forbid you try to get a backup plan in place for your kids in case they need one. That's appalling disloyalty!
Unless your kids is one of the top players on his or her team, it is smart to consider other options while you can.
It is also madness that tryouts happen before the season is over. This causes all sorts of drama, particularly for Memorial Day tournaments. I hate it so much. My kid played a Memorial Day tournament when some, but not all of the kids on the team had offers for next year and my kid had a "contingent offer" which depended on how many outside players they wanted more than my kid accepted their offers. The kids talk about that stuff and it completely and totally sucks for everyone!! Nothing like knowing your coach only wants you if nothing better comes along.
