Like the other PPs, you are remembering the opening act Virgin, who did a cover of “We Will Rock You”.

I was 8 in 1978 and saw Shaun in OKC. I 100% remember Queen opening for him. I remember specifically doing the *stomp stomp clap* standing on my chair. If I am proven wrong I will be devastated because I have been convinced of this for over 40 years.

Here's some info re their North American tour:

This tour was the first the band performed without an opening act[5] although at some shows on the US leg Cheap Trick served as opening act (namely Portland, Chicago and one of the shows in Los Angeles)

The News of the World Tour is also notable for featuring some of Queen's longest shows, generally lasting two hours per night, in contrast to previous tours, where the shows would last around 1 hour and 40 minutes.[1] The shows in Boston (12 November 1977) and Inglewood (22 December 1977) were particularly lengthy performances, with the concert in Boston clocking in at 2 hours and 25 minutes, and the concert in Inglewood clocking in at 2 hours and 15 minutes, making them the second and third longest shows of Queen's career, respectively.[6]

One of the shows on the North American leg – at The Summit in Houston, Texas – was filmed and is widely available among fans. Avg Setlist was 30 songs, many examples can be found on Wikipedia, along with a list of shows they played. That's quite a lengthy set for an opening band. No mention of Shaun Cassidy anywhere.

North America Tour lasted from Nov 11- Dec 22, 1977

After a break tour resumed in Europe April 12, 1978

Much more likely as others have mentioned people are remembering Virgin doing a cover of We will Rock You.

I attended Shaun Cassidy's concert at the Greek Theatre in Hollywood (sometime between 1977 and 1979). I was in my 20s and took my kid sister and her friend who were huge Cassidy fans. The opening act was most definitely Queen. So I don't think "anonymous" imagined that she saw Queen opening for Shaun in Baltimore - because they certainly did in LA!

I really think Queen did open up for Shaun Cassidy at the Omaha Civic Auditorium!! I was in 2nd grade but I remember it so clearly and we actually booed at Queen and kept chanting "We want Shaun! We wan Shaun!" like lunatcis!!!

Shaun Cassidy at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles in 1978 was also my first concert. I always remember the opening band singing a Queen song. I know it wasn't Queen but I appreciate this chain and learning the name of the band was Virgin.
