My kids do it. I don’t know what to do besides only buy washable materials. I am amazed by all of these nevers. I painted my wall when I was like 6. My kids find a reachable pen and that’s that. I’m finding circles behind curtains.

My apparently normal kids did it a fair amount, despite various escalating disciplinary actions from taking writing tools away to yelling to spanking. (Tip: magic erasers live up to their name.) None of those kids, however, were nearly as bad as the one year old, who has done elaborate murals every time her older siblings left markers when she could get to them.

This is karma from when I was young enough to be in a crib. My mom heard silence from my room once. Came in and found I'd drawn all over the reachable walls. Care to guess what writing material a crib-bound toddler would have access to?

My kids never did, but in my friend’s house with ASD kid trips happens regularly.

We have dry erase pen marks on our wall. Any way to get them off short of repainting?

My kids never did, but apparently I was terrible. My mother took away my crayons and markers for a while.

My kid who was the worst at drawing on walls, furniture clothes... was the most well behaved otherwise. She eventually stopped drawing on the house but not her clothes. She NEVER stops. She knows better but cannot stop making art. Even on hikes she starts weaving leaves and flowers together. She sneaks my recycling out and creates sculptures. She draws constantly, even on short car trips she needs something so she can draw. I had to give away a chair she drew an entire detailed pastoral scene on the back with a gold sharpie. I think she gets a lot out of drawing that calms her, the way her siblings might need more sensory and physical stimulation. She needs to constantly create. I trash most of it when she is sleeping and hope she doesn’t notice.

Now 15 yo and 11 yo boys. Never. But they certainly weren’t perfect!

Our 2.5yo DS has yet to do this (whew).

My DD did it once when she was almost 2, used so many different color crayons on the wall. My mom was babysitting her at the time. We got mad at her, and she did not do it again.

My almost 3 year old DS dragged his pencil along the wall in several places. Short lines or ones that were not as noticeable. We got mad at him. We discovered another one elsewhere, but I cannot tell if it was there before we got mad at him or a new one. Overall he's a rule follower, doesn't touch the stuff he is not supposed to in the kitchen or elsewhere, so I am hoping it won't reoccur.



I know of someone who taped those huge brown rolling paper all along the basement wall, and told their 3 year old to feel free to draw on that paper (which to a 3 year old would look like her parents are letting her draw on their basement wall). So I don't think it's a good idea, as I don't think the 3 year old will learn it's only acceptable in her basement and not at preschool or at a friend's. To each their own.
