I appreciate everyone else's suggestions - Highlander, Acadia, etc but I want a luxury car. What luxury SUV can do this?

Acadia comes in Denali package

No one wants captains chairs with no arms. Those seats would be so uncomfortable.

I thought it would be a great alternative to a Suburban or large SUV and minivan. I was disappointed to see that the arm rests in the captains chairs almost touch each other. A child or anyone can not go through the captain's chairs to get to third row. The only way to get to third row is to fold forward the middle seat ( much like an x5 with a third row).

I wish some company would make an SUV with 3 rows that has captain's chairs in the second row that isn't huge like a suburban.

I also don't understand why BMW made this larger SUV if it isn't designed for families. Who is going to buy it?

The car has to be huge to have this feature. Just get a mini-van.

if there were no armrests then it would be perfect. kids don't need armrests! unfortunately they can not be removed and you can not get them without armrests.

Since my post comes so long after the OP, it may be too late to help her, but for anyone else like me who came across this post, I have an update on the armrest problem. I was at the BMW dealership yesterday to check out the X7 for myself, and the service department confirmed that they can in fact remove the armrests (and reattach them at a later date)!

Never. Unlike op, no one in my world has trouble navigating the captain’s chairs to the third row.

Y'all need to accept life and just get a minivan.

Yeah but there are good reasons for the angst. Minivans have those nice perks for families, but they are boats to drive, they handle pretty poorly, the interiors are uninspired, and frankly, they’re boring as all hell. That doesn’t matter to some people, but it matters to others. I won’t say an x7 or range rover handles like an e series, but it’s 102938102380198302830238 times better in handling than a minivan. That’s both more enjoyable driving-wise and preferable, for me, in dc traffic, where you constantly have to weave and cut and brake and swerve and god knows what else. To each his own, but it’s not like a minivan magically fixes everything.

We have an x7, and while it’s not like cruising through a wide grocery aisle, getting to the rear between the captain’s chairs is not that hard. My kids’ friends do it. My in-laws (one of whom is 6’5”) have done it. My parents (one of whom is 185 pounds) has done it. Multiple times. I’ve done it. My husband has done it. My kid does it every day for fun. It’s not perfect (bmw tech is still bmw tech), but if you don’t want a minivan, and you want a luxury suv with a third row, this has been the very best we’ve found. We’ve looked for years.

Sorry it didn’t work for OP getting to that third row, but honestly, we’ve not had major issues. Forgot to mention! Both our captain’s chairs have kid carseats in them, and people STILL don’t have much trouble getting in and out.

This.
Atlas is so much roomier inside then X7 and not about the same size on the outside.
X7 is an overkill. It is amazing how small the interior is for the price and considering the outside dimensions.
It is almost as big as X5 so there is no really a trade off for the price tag.

The only thing with WV Atlas that by the time you will get your leather interior you are going into the highest
price tag that can be very expensive considering that this is not really luxury SUV. Also vibrations on the rare
seats are somewhat an issue. It was written on some WV forum and it seems to be true. People usually
don't notice since they test drive either driving or front seat but not the back.

Try Mercedes for that size with third row, you might like it better. Not as great driving but smooth ride as well
and big interior.

Also, why not just get an XC90? They now have a 6 seat option with a really wide aisle between the second and third rows... it's also a pretty nice looking car and $25k less than the X7.
