The need part is not just with the wifey. Self service and needing sex with the wife is balanced. I guess between the two I need it 5-6 times per week

Guy here. I’m 47 and 1-2x a week is fine for me. In my 30’s- early 40’s I wanted it every day and it felt a bit like I was gasping for air sometimes. She’s about a once a week person so our needs are nearly lined up. The 1-2x a week that we do it now are usually high quality times. I do the things she likes and vice-versa.

We're not hearing his side of the story. He is undoubtedly miserable. If she had sex with him, he'd listen to her "venting" (and even make an effort to pretend to be interested).

Where did I say we are not having sex. We have sex 3x per week.
What I am saying is that he does not provide me emotional support and I am fine with that because i have friends.

What you're missing is that women want emotional intimacy with their husbands/life partners and that having friends does not take its place. For a husband to say, she can unload on her and I don't need to bother to engage emotionally, is exactly what's going to torpedo her desire for physical intimacy. Likewise, a woman who does not make any effort toward physical intimacy can expect to find her husband less inclined toward emotional intimacy. To put it another way, it feels just as lonely for a woman to not be able to talk to or be heard by her spouse as it is for a husband to feel that his wife never wants to have sex.
What you're missing is that the woman invariably expects the "emotional intimacy" to continue even after she loses interest in sex. She stops having sex, or reduces it to once a month starfish, and then she's baffled why he doesn't give a shit about providing her with "emotional support" and listening to her incessant stream of consciousness bullshit.
