So we had the tournament- and I have to say these particular European kids were not so great as to help the club that much when grafted onto our squad after a couple practices.

I am a pretty harsh critic of DS as a Keeper but I don’t think the guest GK was great - marginally better than my son.

Humorously (to me) because my son is always be called slow using their “European club timing system” for various sprints, the guest keeper was even slower in the sprints.

Anyway, we’ll be moving along next year. I don’t see the bad taste rinsing out of my mouth.

Oh, so your kid wasn't the only one to get replaced? How did the other parents react?

OP, did you really get the feeling that the club was seeking wins? Did this team ultimately get the wins (whether or not the guest players provided some advantage)? Could this have been nothing more than exposing those guest players to our (ha!) soccer culture? (No, I'm not trying to imply that our current culture is a good thing!)

As a 2008/U11 parent, what is more concerning to me is that the benched GK hasn't been playing other positions all along. I think it's great that that he wants to play GK at this age, but I think many may agree that this age is too young to focus exclusively on a single position. My 2008/U11 plays GK, but she may barely play an entire half of a game there. There are 5 girls on a roster of 15/16 that are getting additional GK training and our coach distributes playing time at all positions evenly regardless of outcomes. If training and playing time at other/all positions isn't already happening, then I believe that would be a more significant reason for leaving the current club.

There is no silver lining to what the club/team did to this player. Especially if significant travel expenses were a part of the trip. This kid is not joining this team and it is disrespectful to your own players.

Agree. I am also not a fan of players dropping down a team to cinch wins in tournaments/crucial games. It is an absolutely awful thing for the team morale and if it happened at my Club, I'd be gone the following year. The team stands on its own.

Really can name the club - if someone from club happens by they'd know the situation based on the details. Otherwise won't see it either way.

Good for you. Seriously it must have been hard in your son.
