New poster with literally the same question as OP, but 4 years later.

Op, are you out there? What did you decide? How did it go?

And DCUM, how would you advise now, post pandemic?

But a substantial chunk of that (around 25%) is the Learning Center, so the home school population is even smaller. Which also has the effect of making the test scores look bad to people who don’t know about the huge special ed program, making it even less desirable for home buyers.

This has had less of an impact since PARCC and the GS rating changes. I'm not sure whether the kids with severe disabilities don't take PARCC or if the test is modified for them. The home prices have been creeping up. There are a bunch of contemporary style homes rather than traditional colonials so that drives the prices down somewhat too. Personally I love contemporary homes but that isn't the preference around the area. From a value standpoint, you get the most for your money in the Wootton cluster buying in within the Dufief neighborhoods.

It is not modified and yes they have to take it unless they are on certificate track, which most Learning Center students are not in ES (though many/most of them end up on it eventually). So it all counts and it makes Dufief look weaker than the other Wootton cluster schools even though the gen ed classes are pretty much the same as Travilah or Lakewood. Which is fine if you take the trouble to look at the numbers and understand the school, but many people do not.

Their enrollment is 313, and their capacity is 414.

My son is a freshman at Wootton I have been very happy with the school and it’s only a pressure cooker for grades if you have it inside you to begin with. I sometimes wish my son had a little bit of that pressure in him as he certainly does not feel it. There are a lot of good clubs and the kids are very nice and inclusive. This is the type of school where academics are certainly valued more highly than sports. I have joked that the marching band is larger than the football team. I love the location to live as I am right off of 270 so I can swing up to Frederick or down to DC equally as easily.
