For crying out loud, there are reasons beyond racism that people might not want to live in Gaithersburg. It is far from DC and jobs in DC and Tysons/NoVa for that matter. It is similarly far from most of the attractions that make DC unique and exciting. There aren't many cultural attractions, highly regarded restaurants, or other things that make you say 'wow, I really want to be in Gaithersburg.'

Sorry, if we aren't all as excited about Crown and Rio as you are.

Oh have you seen Washingtonian Center? It is right nexct to the Crown? Compelte with "Lake Cuomo", water pedal boats, swans, gees, promenade around the lake, Huge Theather, Tons of restaurants, mini train going around the lake,
walking around the lake, Mary go round.. Target, walkable streets with stores.. It is amazing area. Just go and see.
It is just perfect for families. Go in the Summer and you don't want to leave.

Also TacoBar is nearby, and that place is awesome. We used to live near there while my husband was finishing up his research.

Yes, in a way, it does. But what it does point out, without a doubt, is that people are completely unaware of just how expensive real estate is in all of MD. All those posts about find something cheap in Olney, Gaithersburg, Howard county are off base. Sure they are cheaper than NW DC, for the most part, but if you want a decent and bigger place, even all the way to Frederick, you are paying a lot of money. Also, it shows how privileged so many people are here. For majority of average working families, Gaitersburg is not FAR from DC, for many Gaitersburg HS is a perfectly good school. Let's not fake why people don't want their kids in brand new state of the art building in Gaithersburg and it is not because of Great school rating, it is because of the student body ethnicity. So, yes, not only is OP out of touch with real-estate reality in MD, OP is elitist and racist for assuming that people don't want to live there or pay that much for nice place close to everything in Gaithersburg. No doubt one of Whitman HS or NoVA posters.

We live in Kentlands and honestly love the area. We're psyched about the renovation of our retail area (a Cinepolis luxury cinema is coming in, we recently got a really good sushi place, a delicious taco place, we're going to get a Mod pizza location, etc.). The Crown/Rio area is a little hectic and too close to the highway for my taste, but I love having it nearby!

If we didn't have a great pool in our neighborhood, we would probably join Lifetime for their pool.

My grandmother lives in a similar area (not in DC but in a suburb of another major city) and it is perfect. She can walk to the shops and restaurants/cafes, and her doctors are nearby (lots of nice medical buildings in the area). If her kids/grandkids come over, they aren't bored because they can walk to get an ice cream, see a movie, etc.

Also you should see the indoor pool in Boyd's... tons of slides. For winter and active boys .. a life saver.
