Lots of states have corruption and incompetence.

So let’s create another one!

I thought you loved the states to be free from the "yoke" of the big bad Federal government? If so, then you definitely should support the new states of DC and Puerto Rico.

yes, lets give people full voting rights as American citizens and the right to govern themselves. And not use as an excuse not to something that is common in other states.

Larry Hogan would not want to absorb thousands of Dem votes. The Md GOP would never go for this. You would need to pass it in the Md legislature with only Dem votes. But they won't support it either.

Not true the Supreme Court is currently hearing a case in which the legislature gerrymandered/swindled Republicans out of seats in MoCo. So Hogan would love to have those seats back because of those homes have people which indicate more tax revenue.

Whatever you feel about "swindling" (gerrymandering just as bad happened in GOP controlled states) the new Dem seats he would get in DC are more important than the revenue.

BTW the entire Md house delegation now supports DC statehood, I believe.

The narrative about Md blocking statehood is NOT coming from Maryland as far as I can tell, but from Repubs from other areas, who don't want two more Dem Senators.

Links please & thank you.

sort by state.

6 Md reps are listed. Hoyer is not on the list, but has come out in support. So that is 7 of 8, Harris the lone Republican has not come out in support (because, I guess, this is partisan and GOP does not want 2 more Dem Senators) I do not think he has made a statement supporting retrocession to Maryland though - he believe he supports the status quo.

Statehood leaves us with the same crappy schools, healthcare, transportation, and lack of housing. I'm far happier becoming a part of Maryland. Virginia would be better still but that would never happen.

I'll bet less than 0.01% of people who live in DC hold these conservative-influenced views.

Have you even BEEN to DC? Every single person who lives here wants to be a state.
The only people who talk about being part of Maryland are literally on Mitch McConnell's staff. Combine that with the whining about how hard it is to live in DC (which is generally great) and what you get is: conservative troll. Peace.
