The crime rate in Columbus is much higher than the national average and higher than other places within Ohio.
I have relatives who live there and out of the 8 of them, all of them have been the victim of some type of crime (mugging, in a store being robbed, carjacked) and two have been seriously wounded (stabbed, shot).
The overall crime rate is 60% higher than the average of crimes committed in Ohio. It is also 62% higher than the national average. When it comes to violent crimes, Columbus, OH shows a crime rate that is 74% higher than the Ohio average.

Aaaaand...the first dummy has arrived. Welcome.
This may have been true in the 1990's but in the mid 2000's to present has become a very competitive school. Admissions are equivalent to UMD; most smart in state students have a hard time being admitted.Anonymous wrote:It doesn’t have a good academic reputation. This is not even close to being true. The "marginal" students go to a handful of other universities in the state. And OSU has a HUGE alumni network.
“Huge” alum networks are worthless.
You want an alum network where alums are in high places and “go to bat” for fellow alums.
I went to a big10 school and my sister went to Williams.
Williams alums are a lot more helpful. Hell, I use her network than I do mine.

Yeah the marginal students in Ohio end up at Akron, Kent State, Bowling Green, and Wright State and the religiously-affiliated colleges. Not Ohio State.
The best students who are staying in state go to OSU (honors program) or Miami. Used to be that Miami was better but that has switched in the last 10 years.
Or the excellent privates: Denison, Kenyon, Oberlin.
Not really.
Yes really.
NP. I am from Ohio. Kenyon, Denison, and Oberlin really are not popular among Ohioans.
One of the top 25 from my graduating class went to Kenyon, Denison or Oberlin. They either went OOS to better publics (Michigan, UVA), Ivy or Ohio State honors program/Miami. A few of the richer kids who weren’t great students went to Denison. Kenyon and Oberlin had zero from my class. Until I started reading here, I never knew these were schools people actually targeted.

I know plenty of folks who have had OSU alumni "go to bat" for fellow alums. OSU alums are fiercely proud of their alma mater, for the most party. I don't think you know much about OSU given your comments.
