I drive a large SUV, and my children are grown. My husband also drives an SUV. We have many reasons for choosing them, none of which is because we are insecure.

No doubt this will be lost on you but the reason people need to drive bigger cars to be safe on the road is because of the threat caused by other bigger cars. And there are all sorts of studies showing that machismo driven knuckleheads like you are far more likely to be aggressive drivers and cause accidents. So you in fact are the problem not the solution.
But yeah keep patting yourself on the back for pulling other idiot drivers out of ditches.

As I just posted, the only place I've lived that had rules like this was Montgomery Village; UMC is not how I would describe it.
