My DW has started hiding bottles and uses a credit card that she thinks I can’t check to get drinks at her lunches with friends now too on a regular basis. She is really spiraling downhill. Drinks at lunch, happy hour/late afternoon and evening/dinner. So sad. One day she will kill herself in car accident or die in a way the nurse described in an earlier post.

So true. Will never forget seeing a patient die of cirrhosis for the first time as a 3rd year med student. He was confused, incontinent, cachectic, and jaundiced. Really awful way to die.
what is considered a not awful way to die? in your sleep?

Hey, the upside is you don't have to live very long in that state. By the time you get to debilitating liver failure, you've only got a couple weeks, and you're pretty out of it during that time. So really, it's not too bad, at least compared to cancer, CHF, ACD, COPD, ALS, dementia, or whatever else kills people over years of suffering.
Heart attack or massive stroke in your sleep is still the winning lottery ticket when it comes to checking out though.

NP here. My DW lied to me about drinking this past weekend. That is a bad sign right? Seems like it is a symptom of a problem with alcohol similar to hiding bottles described by other posters.
