And no, OP, do you do not need to buy DD a Jeep. If I heard any whinging at all after providing my children with a clean, safe, reliable car then I'd be taking it back and making them work for the money to buy their own the way DH and I did - regardless of what we can technically "afford". What we cannot afford is entitled children.


Not really. This problem has just about nothing to do with the kinds of problems I actually have with my son.

I agree that this has to be a teenager is writing this post. The bolded is my favorite line, that is ALL she is going to ask for!! I know I always get $40,000 gifts for my bday and Christmas!


I had to smile at this line too Totally out of touch with reality. It could just be a clueless woman who married a really rich man though and never had to learn about the value of money.

Also, I do think there is a danger in communicating to your DD that because she is a good student who plays by the rules, she “deserves” to get what she wants. Life doesn’t work that way. You can play by the rules, make the “right” decisions, and still not get what you want in life. Think about the values you want to impart and try to find a way to put this gift (if you do it) in that context.

I mean, the title is “Do I need to buy my DD a Jeep.” The obvious answer is no, you don’t need to. I drove a Ford Taurus station wagon in HS and my DH drove a Dodge Caravan or something like that. If our daughters ever beg for a Jeep I’d probably tell them I’m reconsidering their school/peer environment. But if you want to then you want to. The answer to your question is still no, you don’t have to. You want to.

What about a used Jeep Patriot? I loved mine, and intended to pass it to DD-until I was rear ended. It was totaled, but protected me from injury-the insurance and body shop people were impressed with it.
It's also smaller and easier to park than the Wranglers.
