Who does that??

You certainly didn't have to ask them to watch it. That's girl-code 101 stuff right there.

If they saw it and knew it was there, they shouldn't have left it alone. That's ridiculous, frankly.

Agree! I’m surprised by all these other responses. Since they knew it was there because they had to move it to reach their own purses, one of the women should have at least stayed at the table until you returned.

Absolutely.

I think some of the posts here are just piling on. I am pretty sure I don't have any friends who wouldn't grab the purse or stay at the table until I return.

I would have stayed or brought the purse, but I would have been annoyed. It was the end of the meal. Why do I have to sit here and wait while OP goes to the bathroom? What if I need to go to the bathroom? Then I have to take it with me (why do I have to carry YOUR purse to the bathroom because you didn't want to?) or cross my legs and wait, and then make everyone wait for me while I go (or better yet, get left behind because everyone else has already gone). Take care of your own stuff!

Are you serious? Why are you making this such a dramatic issue? You wait or take the purse with you. It's not a life-altering decision. Also, have you never in life had to hold your bladder? Have you never had to wait for another human being before? Are you worried about not making while you wait for 5 minutes for your friend's return?

How odd.

Yeah, it is odd that OP is considering not being friends with these people because they didn't cart her purse to the bathroom in the restaurant.

You're stupidity. Who leaves their purse on a chair?

wtf is 'girl code 101'? For me, grown up code is 1) watch your own crap.2) If you want someone to do something, you need to ask them, nicely. 3) be accountable for your actions, dont go looking to blame others.

I'm sure they just didn't know the purse was on the empty chair. I can see myself making that mistake when out with a friend.

When I worked as a waiter, ladies purses left behind on the empty chairs was very common.

If I'm leaving my bag to go to the restroom when out with anyone, I alway say, "hey, watch my purse, please."

Which means everyone's drinks were unattended as well—that should bother you just as much, if not more.

No one was drinking. We’d gone out for dinner.

I have no idea how to respond to this, other than to say I'm glad I wasn't at this dinner.

I thought you meant they left it there when they left the restaurant. In that case, they should have brought it. To the bathroom? No big deal.

always take your purse with you. ALWAYS. Not anyone else's responsibility. No, you should not be mad at them.

To the chase:

Went out with 2 colleagues turned friends this evening. At one point I excused myself to use the restroom, leaving my purse behind on the empty chair.

A few minutes later they entered the restroom-leaving my purse behind! I though Girl Code dictates you take the other person’s bag with you (and take it to them) if it’s been left behind and you’re leaving the vicinity.

I have no intention of confronting them about it (when they walked in I said “You guys left my purse?” And went to retrieve it) but I would like to know if I’m being a bit overly sensitive here. Ive been trying to figure out if I can truly consider them friends, keep my distance anyway which is why I’m paying attention to such a minor (or not) thing.

Too sensitive. I would have taken my purse with me OR asked them to watch it. Probably didn't see it so blame yourself. It is your purse, right?

Maybe your purse was so big that they didn't want to lug that sucker across the restaurant. I doubt this was some concerted attempt to injure you. You seem pretty sensitive. If someone isn't "friend material" because they didn't schlep your suitcase to the bathroom for you, you might have unrealistic standards for friends.
